As I write this, Haiku R1Alpha2 is just a few days away.  Anyone here actively testing the builds out?  It's going to be a GCC2 Hybrid build, and will include the new Web Positive browser which is based on WebKit.  It's fairly usable already, but shows lots of improvements with each new release.  The last version I tried still have issues with gmail, but most other sites were working fine.
Other things to look for in the Alpha2 are unsecured wireless support, maybe basic WEP  using setwep.  There's also a lot of work being done one translations to other languages, so you might be able to use it in your native language even if that isn't English.  Post your experiences with R1A2 here.

Hopefully I'll get some time this weekend to try it.  Fingers crossed it works on my new laptop.  The new laptop seems to be more alt -os unfriendly than the previous.

At least I'll try it in vmware.

The number 1 critcal milestone for this release is the webpositive.  No OS is worthwhile unless it has a good web browser.

Its pretty easy to argue that once there is a good web browser nothing else is really needed at this point. You could easily do just about everything on a computer on the web these days (well, maybe not EVERYTHING, but a LOT of things).

Overall its still fairly useless as a day-to-day operating system. Not because the base feels unstable, but because there aren't enough quality applications to make it useful. But, that was BeOS's problem 10 years ago as well.
