Hi,

I just bought a Realtek RTL8029(AS) network card, I put it in my computer on a PCI slot, but Zeta don't seem to recognize it. In the Network preferences, I just have loop0 and my network card doesn't appears.
But in peripherals (Préférences->Peripherals) the card appears but it has no name (name : no name, but vendor = Realtek RTL8029(AS))

Could you help me please ?

PS : Sorry for my poor english )

Appearing in the Devices panel (or Peripherals as Zeta seems to call it) does not nessacerily mean it will be working.

http://bebits.com/app/2116 may be the driver you need however.

Hmmm... RTL8029 is NE2000 compatible, (at least the 10MBS version is...) Have you tried adding an NE2000 card? (Does Zeta let you do that... dunno, haven't got it installed at the moment..)

I've used a RTL8029 card with R5 and Dano/Zeta, so I'm sure it does work. I don't remember jumping through any hoops either. Are you sure that Realtec haven't altered the chipset? the (AS) couls be significant. If you have a R5 box, try it under R5. It should work out of the box.

I pulled my rtl8029 yesterdat to replace an rtl8139 I wanted to put in another box (running BeIA) and the chipset I had was an rtl8029AS.

This card is NE2000 compatible - you need to use NE2000 to get it to work. You may have to manually add this to BoneYard/Zeta net prefs. I have had this working in Zeta.

Did it have it's own IRQ?  I've had problems with networking not working because I installed the highpoint IDE drivers on Bebits, and it gave IRQs to the unused RAID ports, which, meant there weren't any left for sound and networking.

Also try the beos drivers from the realtek website.  I've got lots of 8029AS cards and they do work.  There bog standard.

It shouldn't need a driver - it'll use the ne2000 driver. Dunno if realtek make a 8029 driver for BeOS, but I've certainly never needed one.

The IRQ thing could be the key though. Also - does Boneyard add ne2000 cards? He may just as well try manually adding an ne2000 card.

I just noticed that the same person who posted this thread here also posted the same problem over at the YellowTab forum and in that thread he says he solved his problem.

It's ok ! I can browse the web now !
the problem was the Irq of the card... the IRQ 11 was "Reserved" and I turned it to "PCI slot" in the bios
and now when I go to devices window the card has the IRQ n°11

You can read the entire thread here http://www.yellowtab.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=2714

So it seems that you guys were both right, it was just an IRQ problem and not a driver issue.
