Hey all..

Synapse Lounge is growing pretty quick, and several of you have already found your way over. For those who haven't, here is a link directly to the BeOS forums (foraii?) over there..

http://www.synapselounge.com/lounge/forumdisplay.php?forumid=14

It already has general, hardware, software, support, etc in it, just waiting to be used. Not only that, but I will add whatever other forums you may need or want.. and its in a wider page view, and easier to use, etc...

Because of this (and because i am running two forums on one license) I am going to fade these forums to read only over the next few weeks. Please move over there and keep talking.

This is not an attempt to kill BeOS Discussion or to suggest that BeGroovy will stop posting news. As long as we can post beos news, we will (and major props to deej for keeping it up to date recently). This is a way to decentralize the forums from the rest of the site. I hope we come out of it even stronger than before.

I am also starting work on a new backend system for the entire site. I have been pretty quiet, but I am back on a coding level and will start simplifying and cleaning things up around here. too many broken scripts. Wink

Thanks,

Nutcase

Is it possible to just migrate the BeGroovy forums over to the SynapseLounge BeOS site?
It would make it easier to keep up with the various threads, for me at least.  Click on the forums at BeGroovy and go directly to SynapseLounge1

yeah, i think that would be a great way to smooth the transition from the begroovy site to synapselounge.

I could easily make the "forums" link just point to the beos section of the lounge. I am just scared of the wrath it would bring down upon me. Wink

One more post saying do it, and i will. Very Happy

Add another forum button to the side, to go to the archives (these) ... have the normal button take ya to the lounge forums.

Is it possible, on the lounge, to have a link back to begroovy in /just/ the beos section ont he lounge. I know its possible to do, just how hard is it to do stuff like that with php? Wink

Sad I would personally prefer if only the last weeks active threads migrated to the lounge so that its clearly a move of fourm not a change of name. A clean fresh start.

Fresh start?

I don't want to flame but...

Do you know how many posts are here in total compared to last week?  You might only have <100 posts, but a lot of people have put a lot of work into posting here. Sad

I didn't mean get rid of the old posts good god no.

Just only migrate the recent threads to synapse lounge. Still keep a readable archive of BeGroovy.

Sorry if I didn't make myself clear.  Beaten Up (ouch)

I wouldn't think user names and post counts would be migrating with it ... am i wrong nutcase?

if that happening how about adding my 836 here with my ~600 over there Wink

i don't see how a merge of the users could be done so that everyone is happy, then again, i'm not a mysql/vb guru like our forum leader is ...

there won't be a merge. Post counts will drop back to 0 on the lounge. The problem with a merge is the unique id's overlapping. It would be a nightmare to do a proper merge, including checking through all 107 members over there to match up with the begroovy accounts.

Its just too much work and wont happen.

Here is how it will work when it happens:

The forum links all over the site will go to the beos section of the new forums. The forums here will be set as read only for everyone, frozen in place. Partner forums will stay usable and where they are (on the begroovy forums) for the time being, until we work out a transition with the partner sites.

The lounge already has quite a large body of posts... but no where near as many as begroovy does. This place is a major archive of BeOs information. But the lounge's beos section has potential to become a huge archive of new information, related to openbeos, and maintaining beos in the years a.b. (if you need a.b. explained, you havent been around long enough to care)

In any case, that is the plan.. and it will happen whenever i get off my lazy ass and do it. Wink

On a side note, i just re-realized how truely rocking the begroovy customization system is. I think i may start ripping code apart and create a nice generic portal system out of it, with all the obvious bugs fixed. Smile

On a second side note, i plan on trying to fix the sidebar updating scripts one of these days, so that the data and infoquotes actually updates again. wont that be fun? Smile

Well thank God Nutcase hasn't pulled the plug on this outfit Very Happy. We should try and keep BeGroovy going, it's a much nicer forum than the BeOS Journal ones and there seems to be a much wider variety of stuff here. Also for nostalgic purposes Wink.
